My Skincare Journey: Mistakes, Lessons, and How I Found the Right Routine

When I first started my Skincare Journey, I had no idea it would be so tough. Like many others, I wanted clear, glowing skin. but instead, I faced many problems that made me doubt everything I was doing. But one thing I learned is that every journey has struggles, and every mistake is a step toward finding the right way in your skincare journey.

My name is Nivetha, and I want to share my Skincare Journey “the mistakes I made”, the lessons I learnt, and how I finally found a routine that works for me. If you’re struggling too, don’t lose hope. Keep going, and you’ll find what works for you!.

It all began when I decided to take skincare seriously. I always admired people with flawless skin and wanted the same for myself. I started watching lots of YouTube videos, reading skincare blogs, and following influencers who suggested different products. Excited to see quick results, I bought many skincare products, thinking using them all would make my skin perfect.

But my skin reacted badly. Instead of getting a healthy glow, I got breakouts, redness, and dry patches. My skin felt irritated, and I didn’t understand why. I was frustrated and sad—how could skincare make my skin worse? The more I tried to fix it, the worse it became. I started losing confidence and became very self-conscious about my face.

How Do I Recover from This?

As my skin got worse, so did my stress. I started avoiding meeting people, covering my face with makeup, and constantly worrying about my looks. I spent hours searching for solutions, but the more I read, the more confused I got. Should I use serums? Should I stop certain ingredients? Was my skin purging or reacting badly?

The stress of my skin problems started affecting my daily life. I became obsessed with finding a solution, but every new product I tried only made things worse. I kept asking myself ” how do I fix this mess? “

My Skincare Journey: I Made a Costly Mistake by Spending More Money

When I first started my skincare journey, I was like many beginners , I believed that expensive products would deliver the best results. I thought the more I spent, the better my skin would become. So, I splurged on luxury skincare brands, Korean skincare products, trending serums, and high-end creams, hoping they would magically transform my skin.

I tried everything: exfoliating daily, layering multiple serums, and slathering on heavy creams, all in the hope of fixing my dry patches and achieving that “glass skin” glow.

But instead of seeing improvements, my skin started to rebel. It became irritated, sensitive, and even more dry. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was damaging my skin barrier by overloading it with too many products and not giving it time to adjust.

Looking back on my skincare journey, I can see where I went wrong. I was chasing quick fixes and jumping from one product to another without understanding what my skin truly needed. I wasted so much money on products that didn’t work, and my skin was still far from healthy.

This experience taught me an important lesson. skincare is not about how much you spend, but about understanding your skin and being patient with the process. It’s about finding the right balance and giving your skin the care it deserves – not overwhelming it with every trendy product on the market.

Now, my skincare journey is all about simplicity, consistency, and listening to my skin. I’ve learned to focus on gentle, effective products and to give my skin time to heal and thrive. It’s been a journey of trial and error, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding.

If you are just starting your skincare journey my advice is , don’t make the same mistakes I did. Take your time , do your research, and remember that healthy, glowing skin doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag.

Let Me Tell You How I Recovered and Found the Right Way

You know what really changed my skincare journey? It was the moment I decided to stop trying everything. I realized I was just following trends and not actually listening to my skin. So, I took a step back and focused on understanding what my skin truly needed. And guess what? That’s when things started to turn around. Let me share how I did it – maybe it’ll help you too.

1. Simple Routine

I used to think that more products meant better results. But honestly, my skin was overwhelmed. So, I stripped it all back to the basics: a gentle face wash, a good moisturizer, and sunscreen. That’s it. And you know what? My skin started to breathe again. I learned that sometimes, less really is more.

2. Knowing Ingredients

I used to buy products just because they were popular or recommended by influencers. Big mistake! I started reading labels and understanding ingredients. Turns out, my skin hates fragrances and certain acids. Once I cut those out, the irritation and redness started to fade. It’s amazing how much of a difference knowing your ingredients can make.

3. Patch Testing

This one’s a game-changer. I used to slather new products all over my face without a second thought. Not anymore! Now, I always patch test on a small area first. It’s saved me from so many bad reactions. Trust me, it’s worth the extra step.

4. Giving Time

I used to expect overnight results. Spoiler alert : that’s not how skincare works. Real changes take time-weeks, even months. So, I stopped jumping from one product to another and gave my skin time to adjust. Patience really is key.

5. Getting Expert Help

I finally decided to see a dermatologist, and it was the best decision ever. They explained that my skin barrier was damaged and recommended gentle, hydrating products to repair it. Sometimes, you just need a professional to point you in the right direction.

6. Healthy Eating & Drinking Water

I used to think skincare was all about what you put on your skin. But I was wrong. What you put in your body matters just as much. I started drinking more water, eating healthier, and cutting back on sugar and dairy. And guess what? My breakouts started to clear up. Skincare isn’t just about creams and serums – it’s a lifestyle.

So, that’s how I turned my skincare journey around. It wasn’t easy, and it definitely took time, but it was worth it. If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, just remember: you don’t have to do it all at once. Start small, listen to your skin, and be patient. You’ve got this!

What I Learnt from My Skincare Journey

This experience taught me many important lessons:

  • Patience is Important: Skincare is a slow process. There are no miracle products.
  • Not Everything Works for Everyone: Just because a product works for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for me.
  • Expensive is Not Always Best: Some of the best skincare products are affordable and simple.
  • Listen to Your Skin: Instead of following trends, I now focus on what my skin actually needs.
  • Skincare is Self-Care: Taking care of my skin is now part of my self-care routine, not just a beauty habit.

Final Thoughts

My skincare journey was full of mistakes, stress, and wasted money, but it also taught me valuable lessons. Now, I have a simple routine that works for me, and I feel more confident. If you are struggling with skincare, my advice is to take it slow, do your research, and find what suits your skin.

Your skincare journey might not be perfect, but every step will teach you something. Remember, good skin is not about perfection. it is about feeling happy and confident in your own skin.
